Welcome to DRC

The overall goal of UBEC’s Digital Resource Centre is to provide quality digital educational content for schools across the country as well as contemporary capacity building to relevant actors in the Nigerian education sector that will lead to the delivery of high quality basic education services in Nigeria. The Centre has a particular focus on providing digital content and e-Resources for the UBEC model smart schools and e-learning centres across the Federation as well as basic education schools in general.

Prof. Bashir Shehu Galadanci

National Coordinator, Digital Resource Centre (DRC)

Professor Bashir Shehu Galadanci is a computer engineer who has broad experience in ICT in general and more specifically in software engineering, telecommunications and computer science in particular.  He acquired his B.Sc. in Electrical/Computer Engineering with first class honours from King AbdulAziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 1984. He thereafter obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Boston University, Boston, MA, USA in 1987 and 1994 respectively. 

He is a professor in the Department of Software Engineering at Bayero University, Kano (BUK).  He has held many administrative positions in the university including  Dean, Faculty of Computer Sciences & IT and Head of Department, Department of Software Engineering. He is a member of the BUK Senate and has served in the BUK Council.

He served as Special Advisor to the Governor on ICT and Education, and later as Commissioner for Science and Technology for Kano State. He has served in many high level committees and boards at the state and federal levels in Nigeria. These include the National Technical Committee on the Harmonization of IT Initiatives (NTC-HITI), Telecommunications Sector Reform Steering and Implementation Committee (TSRSIC), Committee on Rural Telecommunications and Universal Service Obligations (RT&USO) (Chairman), Advisory Board, Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), Technical Advisors Committee JAMB (Chairman), TETFund Research and Development Steering Committee (RDSC) (Chairman, ICT Sub-Committee) and Technical Committee on Integration of E-Learning into the UBE Programme (Chairman).

He has participated in several workshops and conferences in Nigeria, Italy, Ghana, Malaysia, Kenya, Egypt, Singapore, China, Namibia, Liberia, Gambia, Uganda, South Korea and the U.S.A. He has many publications including two books.

He is currently the National Coordinator of the Digital Resource Center of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

UBEC/NABU Equips Teacher-Librarians with Creative Literacy Skills

In collaboration with NABU, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Digital Resource Center (DRC) organized a Workshop on Creative Literacy for Teacher-Librarians from 21 operational UBE Model Smart Schools in Nigeria. The three-day workshop focused on introducing creative digital literacy programmes like the ‘Read-aloud’ sessions and reading fairs to make reading an enjoyable adventure and experience for learners. This initiative aims to enhance literacy education through innovative and culturally relevant methods, thereby creating access to over 300 digital and physical storybooks in indigenous languages. STEM Child Care Academy Visits UBEC DRC

STEM Child Care Academy paid a courtesy visit to Prof. Bashir Galadanci, the National Coordinator of the Digital Resource Center. Alhaji Muhammad Mamu, the co-founder and CEO who led the delegation, expressed admiration for the impressive facilities the DRC has to offer. UBEC Trains School Support Officers for UBE Model Smart Schools

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Digital Resource Center organized a three-day training workshop to develop the capacities of Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) Staff to serve as School Support Officers (SSOs) in the 21 operational Smart Schools across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones.
