UBEC Formally announced as host of 2024 African Edtech Conference

The Universal Basic Education Commission held a press conference organized by Edufirst.ng in collaboration with the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) to officially announce the hosting of the 6th edition of the African Edutech Conference at the UBEC Digital Resource Center (DRC), Kado-Kuchi, Abuja.

The event was attended by key media organizations which included the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Radio Nigeria, Punch, Daily Trust, Vanguard, and The Sun Newspapers among others.

The hosting of the forthcoming Conference in October 2024 by UBEC aims to showcase its DRC facility as a testament to the commitment of the Commission to promoting educational technology in Nigeria and Africa at large.

UBEC embarks on MEL of Smart Schools

13th-17th May 2024

The Universal Basic Education Commission Digital Resource Center conducted a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) exercise for the 14 operational UBE Model Smart Schools slot gacor hari ini across Nigeria.

The MEL exercise focused on assessing the effectiveness of ICT-driven teaching methodology and its impact on learning outcomes in the 14 operational UBE Model Smart Schools.

The 5-day activity was designed to systematically collect data, analyze results and learning experiences in the smart schools to improve and strengthen the smart education system.

KOICA Boosts Smart Education with Multimedia Studio Equipment

The Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) is taking significant strides in supporting smart education in Nigeria. The KOICA Country Director, Mr. Son Sungil presented slot gacor hari ini the handover certificate for the newly completed and equipped state-of-the-art multimedia content development studio at the UBE Model Smart School in Karshi, Abuja.

During the handover ceremony, the UBE Commission, represented by the National Coordinator of the UBEC Digital Resource Centre, Prof. Bashir Galadanci expressed appreciation for the generous investment made by KOICA to support the smart schools in the country. He stated that the studio is the first among six of its kind to be equipped in the 6 KOICA-supported Smart Schools.

The KOICA Country Director commended UBEC and the FCT UBE Board for their continued collaboration. He also emphasized the need to utilize the multimedia studio effectively and ensure the equipment is properly maintained and safeguarded.

Niger State Government Set to Establish Smart Schools

The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Dr Hamid Bobboyi, has committed to supporting the Niger State Government in a bid to transform five of its Model Science Schools into smart schools to meet up with the demands of 21st-century education. He made this assertion when he visited Science Model Primary School Chaza, Suleja, one of the proposed schools to be converted.

According to Alhaji Muhammad Baba Ibrahim, the Chairman of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board, the government decided to upgrade some schools in the state to meet world-class standards and ensure that children in the state receive high-quality education that will enable them to compete favourably with their counterparts globally.

Before the visit of the Executive Secretary, a team from the Digital Resource Centre of UBEC, led by Dr Hafsat Lawal Kontagora, visited Model Science Schools located in Minna, Lapai, Beri, Borgu and New Bussa. The purpose of the visit was to inspect the capacity and readiness of the Model Science Schools to commence smart education.

UBEC Celebrates International Day for Girls in ICT

The Universal Basic Education Commission organized a 3-day event in collaboration with Blue Sapphire Hub to commemorate the International Day for Girls in ICT held at the UBEC Digital Resource Center, Kado-Kuchi, Abuja.

The 3-day celebration featured a workshop and a boot camp for female students from twenty (20) Junior Secondary Schools in Abuja. The event included hands-on activities on topics such as Robotics, Web Development, Graphic Design, Mobile App Development, and Data Analysis.

Declaring the workshop open, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr Hamid Bobboyi expressed the unwavering commitment of the Commission to the utilization of ICT in education.

UBEC DRC Set to Introduce Education TV Services & Remote Learning

18th – 19th April 2024

The Digital Resource Center, UBEC held a 2-day meeting to deliberate on strategies for introducing and implementing educational TV and remote learning in Nigeria.

The meeting echoed the sentiments and intent of the Honourable Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman which he expressed during his visit to UBEC DRC in January 2024.

Experts in Education TV production, educators, researchers, policymakers, Educational Content Developers, Broadcasting Specialists and ICT Experts participated in the meeting. KOICA holds Leadership Workshop for Smart School Administrators

15-16th April 2024

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in collaboration with UBEC DRC held a 2-day workshop for administrators of the six KOICA-supported model smart schools.

The workshop centred on the PMC project in the KOICA-supported Smart Education programme in Nigeria, Sharing the status of the PMC project including; infrastructure, capacity building, content development, performance evaluation, Smart School leadership and the development of a qualitative competency training framework for Smart School management as well as feasible approaches to addressing issues facing Smart School implementation in the country.

The Principals, Headteachers, Heads of ECCDE and ICT Managers of the Smart Schools in Bauchi, Ekiti, Nasarawa, Kano, Kwara States and the FCT, Abuja participated in the workshop.

KOICA Embarks on Intensive Training for Smart School Teachers

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) through their implementing management consultants Eduniety Lab Consortium trained selected teachers from the six KOICA-supported smart schools at the UBEC Digital Resource Center, Kado-Kuchi, Abuja.

The training exercise aimed to equip smart school teachers with the requisite competencies in digital educational content creation. These skills are expected to be effectively utilized in teaching learners for enhanced learning outcomes in line with 21st-century smart education best practices.

Fifty smart school teachers participated in the 21-day intensive in-service training on digital educational content development activity.

A 4-day Design, Thinking, Coding, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (DTCRA) Implementation workshop was held for selected teachers of 14 operational UBE Model Smart Schools teachers in the country.

The 4-day workshop aimed to develop the capacity of Smart school teachers on effective implementation of the DTCRA curriculum and equip them with skills to effectively utilize the robotic kits and other DTCRA tools supplied to their schools.

A total of 28 teachers participated in the workshop and were trained on the rudiments of design and computational thinking, writing simple execution commands with block-based programming, assembling simple auto-robots, creating smart devices with local DIY materials and piloting an education drone, among others.
