UBEC trains Effective School Administrators in Leadership Skills

The Universal Basic Education Commission held a 3-day leadership training programme for Headteachers at the Digital Resource Center at Kado-kuchi, Abuja.

The training programme aimed to promote effective leadership, integrate digital technology into basic education, and help develop strategic plans that fit the specific needs of effective schools formerly known as e-learning centres. The activity brought together head teachers from different states to network and share best practices, to prepare school leaders to implement e-learning strategies and improve overall school performance.

The leadership training strengthened the leadership and management capacities of Head Teachers from 109 Effective Schools in Nigeria.

UBEC Interviews Prospective Administrators of New Smart Schools

12th – 13th September 2024

The UBEC Digital Resource Center conducted an interactive session with prospective administrators of smart schools for twelve newly completed UBE Model Smart Schools in the Country.

The primary objective of the interactive session was to interview and evaluate the candidates for the administrative roles they are expected to occupy in the new smart schools by a panel of experts.

The two-day engagement was crucial for selecting the best candidates for the positions of Principal, Head Teacher, Head of Early Childhood Care Development Education (ECCDE) and ICT Managers in the Smart Schools.

UBEC Signs Landmark MOU with NOUN on PGDSE for TIS Programme

2nd October 2024

The Universal Basic Education Commission through the Department of Teacher Development hosted the occasion of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Commission and the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) on the mounting of the Post Graduate Diploma in Smart Education (PGDSE) for Interns in the UBEC Teacher Internship Scheme (TIS).

Speaking during the event, the Executive Secretary UBEC, Dr Hamid Bobboyi expressed delight and described the signing of the MoU as a milestone event. He explained that it marks the beginning of a transformative journey in Nigeria’s basic education sector that reflects the technological changes in today’s dynamic and modern world.

The Vice Chancellor of NOUN, Prof Olufemi Peters, expressed gratitude to UBEC for their foresight in collaborating with NOUN, which will further strengthen UBEC’s mandate to provide quality education to learners at the basic level. The NOUN PGDSE programme bridges the gap between traditional and ICT-based learning processes and experiences within 2 semesters and prepares participants for a future of blended learning.

UBEC Partners with CC Hub for First Edtech Festival

The Universal Basic Education Commission in partnership with the Co-Creation Hub organized an Edtech Festival which brought together prominent individuals from the education, technology, and innovation sectors in Nigeria.

The two-day Festival was themed “Building Ed-Tech for Learning and Profit,” and “Experiencing the Future of Learning,” respectively. These themes delved into cutting-edge EdTech products and future trends in education technology which featured workshops, exhibitions, and interactive sessions tailored for educators, developers, government officials, and learners to improve the learning experience at the basic education level.

The event aimed to showcase innovative educational technology (EdTech) solutions designed to address fundamental challenges in the education system, particularly in underserved areas nationwide.
